
JOEL IN A NUTSHELL
Joel is a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
He is a dual trained lawyer in the United Kingdom (U.K) and Uganda. He has experience advising businesses specifically on corporate finance matters, for which he has undertaken an advanced degree from Jesus College, University of Oxford. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B.) from Uganda Christian University where he graduated and ranked first. He completed the Uganda Bar Course in 2016 where he was ranked in the top three percentile after which he was called to the Uganda Bar.
Joel is the co-founder of the Tech Privacy Legal Lab a non-profit organization focused on ensuring the accountable use of technology in East Africa. Joel is passionate about sharing his experiences and knowledge with young professionals. He does this through Cloud Vision Associates an organization meant to improve capacity for young professionals in East Africa. Joel is an advisor to the Growth Continent Infrastructure Foundation and has served as a member of the UNESCO Youth AI Ethics Steering Committee- In consultation with the UNESCO Bangkok Office. Joel has served as a lecturer in law at two Universities in Uganda teaching different public and private law subjects.
Joel has represented financial institutions and other corporate and individual clients in high value commercial and civil disputes in the Court of Appeal of Uganda, High Court of Uganda and Tax Appeals Tribunal including: tax, negligence, debt collection, and insurance claims.
Joel has written extensively on privacy, corporate regulation and international law.
Outside the law, he is interested in the arts and in his spare time, dances, attends theatre and performs poetry.
