Life After Law School

February 19, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

When I finished my first law degree, I wasn’t sure what I’d do in the long run and which course I was wanted to take in my career. It was a cause of anxiety. I took the conventional step and enrolled for the bar course in order to qualify as a lawyer.  Later, I worked for a commercial law firm and international organization as I tried to figure things out.  With the guidance of my mentors and professors, I decided to pursue a master’s degree in law at the University of Oxford, barely two years after my call to the Bar. It was a rollercoaster of a journey, which had many lessons. Why am I sharing this?

Upon graduation, there is a fear of what happens next, the competitiveness of the market, what specialty to take or even deciding on the next stage of life. I am therefore elated to return to my alma mater on 19 February 2022 where I shall moderate a career talk on options after law school. I am privileged to host panelists from diverse walks of life. Lt. Christabel Tusiime a defense counsel at the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, Martha Nante a Health Law Expert, Rayner Mugyezi an associate at Kampala Associated Advocates (Law Firm), Edline E. Murungi LL.M Harvard University, Ignatius Ategeka a magistrate at the Judiciary and Patrick Mugalula an associate at KATS – Katende Ssempebwa.

It is my hope that this conversation answer some of the student’s questions and avert their fears of life after graduation. #careerdevelopment #graduatejobs
