Life After Law School Career Talk

What will you do when you graduate? What options are there after you complete you degree? Do you need to take the bar course at the Law Development Centre? Or are you better off seeking a career outside law? Should you consider an LL.M or an MBA? Where can you start in order to position yourself for career opportunities?

This Thursday  24 March, 2:00-5:00pm at UCU Kampala Campus Chapel Tent, we shall host a career talk to answer these questions. Our panelists include Diana Tracy Tusiime (MBA) a senior associate from Bowmans Uganda, Ampairwe Cynthia an Advocate and Anti Money Laundering Expert, Martha Nante a Health Law Expert, Peggie Ayesiga an advocate of the High Court, protection officer in the Office of the Prime Minister of Uganda and Joel Basoga an advocate, Oxford graduate and lecturer in law. This event shall be interactive and is open to all students.

Detailed profiles of the speakers are below.

Diana Tracy Tusiime

Diana holds an MBA from Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University , United Kingdom as well as a Bachelor of Laws Hons. from Makerere University . She is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda as well as the High Court of Kenya. Diana Tracy is currently a Senior Associate at Bowmans (Law Firm) Uganda/ AF Mpanga Advocates. She is passionate about youth mentorship and empowerment. Her practice is mainly focused on corporate commercial law, corporate governance, tax, legal and compliance audit among others.

Peggie Ayesiga

Peggie is a lawyer practicing international refugee law at the Office of the Prime Minister where she handles refugee protection matters, as a Protection Officer and NCM Officer. She is an advocate of the High Court of Uganda. She has experience from her short stints at the Constitutional Court of Uganda and the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs in Civil litigation and human rights law. Peggie serves on the National Coordination mechanism for migration. She serves on the secretariat for the Refugee Eligibility Committee and also the National anti trafficking taskforce. She has received special training on international migration law, international refugee law and has experience in migration policy making.

Cynthia Ampairwe

Cynthia is an advocate of the High Court with a large pool of convertible skills, experienced in the legal space, holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Makerere University and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre (LDC). She currently works with the Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) a government agency established under the Anti-Money Laundering Act 2013 to combat money laundering & terrorist financing in Uganda. Cynthia obtained the CAMS certification and is now a recognized Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) globally.Prior to that, she worked with ABMAK Associates, a leading Ugandan corporate and commercial firm.

Martha Nante

Martha holds a Masters Degree from Nottingham Trent University in Health Law and Ethics, A Bachelors Degree from Uganda Christian University, a Post Graduate Diploma in legal practice from Law Development Centre and is currently pursuing an ITP in Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights with Lund University in Sweden. Martha is passionate about Global health and policy, Health rights and particularly improving health service delivery in Uganda through legislation, policy framework and strategy.

Joel Basoga

Joel is a co-founder of Cloud Vision, an advocate of the High Court and a lecturer in law. He is a graduate of Jesus College Oxford , University of Oxford and Uganda Christian University. Joel has worked  in London, United Kingdom with a global law firm  and other international organisations based in the UK . He has also worked in East Africa with commercial law firms and businesses. He is passionate about career development.

This Career Talk shall be held on 24 March 2022 from 2:00pm-5:00pm EAT at Uganda Christian University Kampala Campus Chapel Tent.
