Carving out an International Career

With our guest speaker Olivia Byanyima MBA.

Olivia is an international finance and investment specialist with 17+ years’ experience across the financial services industry, including investment banking and corporate strategy.

As both Founder of The Quixotic Project (financial advisory firm) and Senior Transaction Advisor on Manufacturing Africa (UK funded project led by McKinsey & Company), she provides transaction advisory services to unlock capital for $10M+ projects in Nigeria, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, and Senegal.

She serves as an independent investment committee member of United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), where she evaluates the fund’s investment decisions into early-stage business models in various impact verticals. She also serves as an IC member for The Hi-innovator program at Uganda’s National Social Security Fund (NSSF).

She is particularly excited about work that accelerates the global transition towards sustainable energy and works with clients e.g. The World Bank, Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and private energy funds to develop clean energy projects and promote energy efficiency.

As a social entrepreneur, Olivia co-founded Olivia Knox Inc., a social enterprise featured by Fast Company Inc., and CNN. And in honor of her parents, she recently started the Byanyima Foundation which offers high school scholarships and mentorship to high potential girls in Uganda.

Olivia holds an MBA from Columbia Business School, a master’s in Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences from Columbia University in the City of New York University and a bachelor’s in Quantitative Economics from Makerere University.

She advises various startups and is a frequent speaker at events focused on entrepreneurship and investing in Africa. She lives in Uganda, where she actively explores her passion for design – houses, furniture, home goods and other things.
