Reflections from Visiting the Brown V Board of Education Museum in Topeka

November 14, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 4:20 pm

KSUnite DEIB Conference Day 1

As a Fulbright Scholar from Uganda, I travelled to the United States to acquire expert knowledge and learn about different cultures. While in Kansas on the English Language Program we planned a visit to different historic sites. Standing at the center of the Brown v Board of Education National Historic Site, Topeka on Saturday, July 30, 2022 evoked a lot of thoughts about race in a way I had never conceptualized them. This case rendered ”racially segregated schools” unequal and unconstitutional. This presentation will narrate my experience at the museum and my view of the, “American Promise and Dream” as an outsider. The target audience are an international audience willing to listen to the views of a Ugandan on American values.
